Traffic Safety Data Services

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

Thank you for the analysis on the state’s traffic safety data systems. I find these reports extremely helpful in identifying where improvements can be made and help the State direct and invest limited resources for the most gain.

The information you presented at the state training was very valuable. You were a great coach. Your MMUCC and NEMSIS reviews were thorough and prompt, and I appreciate you maneuvering through some of the muddy waters here in the world of state politics. Thank you all for your time and expertise. I can't imagine how crazy it has been responding to all of the State's "emergencies." But I wanted to make sure I expressed my appreciation for responding to ours.

I just wanted to report that the Traffic Records Workshop went very well. We had four goals in mind: to share information on Section 408 progress; define and review performance measure concepts with the States; showcase “best practices in crash, citation and EMS systems, and to share information on NCSA’s initiatives. Feedback from our States was very positive. They have a much better sense of what it will take to “demonstrate progress” for their second year Section 408 grants. Dick Paddock’s presentations were informative and provided excellent guidance. Our States are quite comfortable that they will be able to highlight at least one initiative in their system that can show progress... Dick and Angie did a great job with the hands on breakout sessions as did NCSA staff with reporting all of NCSA’s data initiatives. We appreciate all of the help provided by NCSA and ROPD for this conference.

NHTSA Region 1 Program Manager

Thank you for everything which you and Dick did up here [State Strategic Planning Training]. All of us who planned the meeting were gratified by both the turnout and what we got accomplished. This was a very productive step in our process. The notes are very timely.

I want to express my appreciation to the NHTSA Region 10 Office for the opportunity to provide feedback on the 408 Online Monitoring System. While the monitoring system is not without its shortcomings, I’ve found it be an enormous improvement over the paper-based system used in year one of the 408 program. What’s more, I continue to see important enhancements to the application that provide great value to those who use it. I would like to specifically commend the attentive staff that provides on-going support for the system, namely Kara Mueller and Angie Schmit. Kara has been especially good in promptly responding to emails and phone calls. I recall one particular instance when I placed a call after-hours expecting to leave a voice message only to have Kara answer and very graciously help me through an issue. This kind of service is greatly appreciated, not only by me but by other state traffic records personnel I’ve spoken with about this topic. Thank you for making that level of service available to states.

I appreciate NHTSA’s continued efforts to improve the processes around the 408 program. I’m hopeful that the Online Monitoring System will continue to improve and serve as an effective tool for state and federal personnel alike.

NHTSA Region 2 RPM

I'd be irresponsible if I didn't add that the TSASS team (Kara and Angie) were phenomenal at helping us work through the [Section 408] process last year. We believe in this system's ability to fulfill its intended purpose - much more effectively than regularly trying to herd the TRCC cats into live meetings to share meaningful progress!

NHTSA Region 10 Program Manager

Thanks again for all you do to make the Traffic Records Program a viable program, delivering decision support for highway safety program planning and delivery

Arkansas State Police

I like the new TRIPRS system a LOT more than the old system. It is easier to navigate, modify, etc. Or, maybe it is because I FINALLY understand the intricate nuances of the system? (no, you are right, probably not!) Or, maybe it is the voluminous assistance that Kara has given me? (yes, again, you are right, probably that is the case!)

NHTSA Region 1 Program Manager

The new Traffic Records Web site (www.nhtsa-tsis.net) is very impressive and a dramatic improvement over previous formats. I am not sure all of the Regions are aware of the valuable guidance material on the site. Nice job all around. The Regions and States will be eternally grateful for bringing some semblance of order to all of the good information that we offer in TR.

Federal Highway Administration Headquarters

I think the level of detail in these project reports is great for really understanding what is going on and how the project is progressing. I am impressed with the capabilities of the TRIPRS. I think we should be able to take more advantage of this system.

NHTSA Region 1 Program Manager

I wanted to let you know that I am getting more used to TRIPRS and enjoying its features every day. I would like to continue to promote TRIPRS as a project management tracking tool and not just as a repository for 408 materials.

NHTSA Region 10 RPM

I would like to commend Kara and her fine work. She again has provided top-notch service to the States in Region 10 in their respective 408 programs, particularly with TRIPRS. Kara has been invaluable for our States and I wanted you to know how much I have appreciated her hard work and patience. The TSASS Team continues to deliver at a high rate, and I wanted you to know how much I appreciate it. I certainly appreciate your feedback, please forward the same to Tammy Paddock too.

Federal Highway Administration Headquarters

Thank you, Kara! I really appreciate your quick turn around on this. Now I can still make the 5:30 train home.
